Residents Emailing Thanks

All of you generous people everywhere. Thank you for all the help you are giving to the awesome people of Slave Lake
I live in Slave Lake and staying with my sister in Grand Prarie. I am happy to know I can go and see if I know any of them.

From Janise

I would like to thank the MD workers, from Allan W. all the way down to the general yard labourers. When I was called back to work on May 18th, I was scared and nervous about being back in the area without my friends and family. Thankfully, my Dad works for the MD so he was back too and I was able to stay with him at the Nova for the 2 weeks that followed! Throughout my stay, I was (by default) forced to hang out with all the other guys working for the MD since we were all staying in the same hotel and they're all buddy buddy with my dad. At first I was like "omg, this is going to suck, being stuck here for god only knows how long with these freaks!" but after chilling with them for a bit, I realized they're all really great (and HILARIOUS) people. We all got along great cause they've all got a wicked sense of humor and I could really relate to the
funny old son of a guns lol So I'd like to thank them all for being so awesome and keeping me entertained. Especially Fenton and John. Fenton's dog was hit by a car right before the fire and had to have emergency surgery in the city while he was up here working. She eventually was able to join us here in Slave :) which was awesome because I missed my dog terribly and she was a wonderful substitute.

To the town Mayor and Councillors that did not sign up for this mess but find themselves thrust into the unimaginable... stay strong, keep your head high and push forward!

From Corinna

Hello there,
I just wanted to say thank you for your beautiful and informative website. I am one of the people who lost my home in the fire. It has  been very hard to find out information and communication from the town has been  scarce and difficult to find. I really appreciate all that you have done and  continue to do to keep us all informed. I was curious about the person  who created and is maintaining this site. It's amazing that you are not even a resident of the town. It is people like you who make it easier to cope with this  situation. Thank you very much. Your efforts and hard work are greatly appreciated. Thank you a million times over.

A Cute Story

Our family was one part of the evacuees that were looking for supplies. We used all of our resources just to drive from Slave Lake... We are fortunate enough to have a camper to live in, and a place to park it - but we had nothing in it yet!!! We evacuated with 8 animals. We were supplied with some dishes, cooking utensils, dog food and cat food! We were looking for some clothes for our son, but the donations were just too many to sort through!! I grew up in Spruce Grove, went to SGCHS, moved to Slave Lake in 1995. Even though Slave Lake has been my home for almost 1/2 my life, most of my memories are from Spruce Grove! I remember walking through the "field" to go to work at McDonald's from the High School!!! Anyway, thanks to all of you for helping us out. It has been more tearful to feel the goodness that is still in our life than it is to know what we have lost. Thank you for giving us hope and the will to move on... :)

A Special Email of Thanks from a gal named Irma

"I would like to thank everyone who faught so hard to save our town and for all those that volunteered to bring our town to a somewhat back to order so we could  all come home. Firefighters, Police Officers, EMS, volunters, Thank you all. You are heros in my heart and I am very thankful to all of you."

To Wal-Mart and Toy R Us

Thank you to Walmart St Albert and ToysRUs Edmonton for donating much needed supplies. On the first day of the evacuation I text some friends at the Athabasca Multiplex to find they needed pet food, toiletries and water--Walmart responded immediately. Later in the week, I was told the same shelter did not have much in the way of interactive toys - not only did. toys/babies R us respond in a very generous donation, but their staff also contributed individually. They were thrilled in Athabasca and wondered if the gifts were heaven sent as they had just been discussing the need.
