Having Trouble With Insurance?
Are you having troubles with your insurance company? Adjuster not explaining things properly or clearly? Having issues reading and sifting through the fine print in your policy? Should you take a payout or wait? These folks can help you out, they are a toll free line that can give you explanations, clarifications, etc. They cannot tell insurance companies what to do, but they can help answer your questions, or point out why's, how come's and what should we do's.
They are the Insurance Bureau of Canada, and not just for reporting bad business insurance companies, but there to help you out. You can call them Monday thru Friday from 8:30am - 4:30pm, at 1-800-377-6378.
The fellow I talked to there today was super friendly, helpful, and even knew people up there personally who lost homes so knows what you are going through. They are fair and will not talk down to you (as I have heard many out of town adjusters are doing and even companies I have called advocating for families - yeesh just cause we are northerners does not make us stupid!) So give them a call and hopefully they can help!
***If you are still having troubles, contact me, as I am trying to get a list of volunteer insurance industry super knowledgeable people who can answer your questions more in depth.
If you are an insurance professional and would like to volunteer your name to help 1 or 2 families that I can refer to you to answer their questions, contact me here to be on the volunteer help list.

FYI
Insurance Bureau of Canada (Consumer Info Officer): "when the house is being rebuilt the Insurance Company usually obtains a few estimates for the cost of rebuilding and would pay the contractor....When a loss occurs and there is a cash payout and there is a loan or mortgage register on the property the payment would be co-payable to both parties with each party needing to sign the check and each getting what is owed to them." - Thanks to Martha for this information.
