Public Announcement – Waste Disposal Options - July 16, 2011
Hours of operation for the Lesser Slave Lake Regional Landfill will be 8am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, closed Sunday and Statutory Holidays. Please show up at least 15 minutes before closing. If you arrive late and insist on dumping your waste, there is a $150.00 after hour’s fee.
Residents are asked to try to bring your residential waste only between the hours of 3pm and 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 6pm on Saturday. This is for your safety, as there is an increased volume of large trucks hauling debris from the burn zones.
Be advised that there may be a wait at the scales, so please allow some time to weigh in and out. We also ask that you follow the signs, including the red/green lights, throughout the facility. Safety and efficiency are our priority, and sometimes this means you may have to wait as our staff work on an account, or perhaps are serving a customer on the phone or in the office, so please be patient.
Due to the large volume of truck traffic during the fire cleanup, individuals who are “just looking” will be restricted to the Take-It-or-Leave-It shed.
Materials received at the landfill will be as follows:
· Residential waste (Class II) – $55.00/tonne. This waste includes kitchen garbage, household garbage, etc. and does not include furniture, electronics, paints, cleaners, wood items. This is general household waste only. Anything that may be considered contaminated by the ash from burnt buildings (no matter how small amount it may be), shall be considered a Class II material and goes into the landfill for proper disposal per Alberta Environment requirements.
· Construction/demolition/furniture (Class III) – $55.00 /tonne. This includes carpets, painted/treated wood, furniture, mattresses, hard plastics, construction materials, demolition materials, insulation, etc.
· Clean concrete –$20.00/tonne. Rebar included. No wood, construction materials, or ash. This can include cinder blocks as well as foundations with Styrofoam concrete blocks.
· Clean metals - $20.00/tonne. No plastics, woods, construction materials, etc.
· Trees/Brush – $20.00/tonne, free for residents. No painted, treated, stained, OSB or Plywood accepted. Only clean brush and or clean wood.
· Cars are $25.00 per unit
· Refrigerators, air conditioners, or anything containing Freon gas is $25.00 per unit
· White appliances such as stoves, dishwashers, dryers, etc. are $10.00 per unit
· Remember to continue to recycle your cardboard, paper, tin cans, aluminum cans, glass, and plastics. Also remember to tell the scale attendant if you have fluorescent bulbs, paint, oil, household hazardous waste, electronics, tires, batteries, appliances, etc. This helps keep things out of the landfill and lets us sort things safely.
Materials should be separated and dumped according to the above breakdown. If you are not sure about what can be sorted, please call the landfill and ask (780-368-2590).
Residents will get the first 500 kg of their loads paid for by the Town or MD, but will be subject to the above charges if they go over the 500kg limit. Residents will be subject to a mixed load charge of $150.00/per load for loads that have mixed materials, such as metal and concrete, or metal and ash, subject to landfill staff discretion. We currently accept cash, cheques, and debit.

Goodmorning Slave Lake and MD residents! We're seeing a spike in roadside litter due to insecure or loose loads. Please rememeber to tarp, bungee, tie strap, net, or in some other way SECURE your loads so our ditches stay beautiful :) there's also a fine for 'loose loads' so unless you have $375.00 just lying around, I suggest taking the time to make sure your load will stay put! Thanks, and have a wonderful day.
